Here are some interesting facts about some
of the items you will find in this coloring book.
Grain elevators are referred to in the
prairie provinces as a symbol of the western regions of Canada where the
elevators became an icon. In 1933 there
were over 5,758 elevators in the prairie province's landscape. Many of the
elevators were built in small towns, hamlets, and villages; and sometimes you
would see rows of elevators that boosted the economic region's agricultural industry.
Fruit Squeezer Kitchen Press or used for
Ricing Potatoes - force cooked potatoes or other vegetables through a sieve or
ricer.
Pantry Box for storing food in and stored
in the pantry. Used in the early 19th century and from 1820 to 1840. Ones made at this time were very thick
walled, and they were used to store grains, sugar, spices, and herbs.
You will find in the coloring book
crocheted doilies, that are small ornamental mats made of lace or paper with a lace
pattern, typically placed on a plate under a cake or other sweet foods.
Vintage Oil Decanter - Copper metal kettle
- Wooden bowl used for popcorn or other foods
Large egg beater bowl to do massive amounts
of eggs - this task was done by hand, and the bowl was made of tin.
Vintage irons - used for ironing clothes.
These irons were made of cast iron and it made it very cumbersome and a great
deal of heavy lifting to do the ironing. It was a difficult task!
In the winter, many families had to put
these irons on the coal stove to heat them up and then wrap a cloth around them
and put them into their beds to warm up the beds before retiring at night.
May you enjoy the nostalgic feelings this
coloring book may bring to you and the opportunity to share a part of your
great history with others.
